Fun2craft: Two Box Cards

A superfun type of card is the so-called Box Card. Its design has been around for quite some time I think, and I don’t know who originally came up with it. This kind of card looks like a box but behaves like a card, in that it is made from cardstock and fits perfectly into an envelope!
By the way, it’s in no way comparable to a so-called explosion box, of which you can view some examples here.

Using the richly colored Fly Free paper collection by Kaisercraft, I created two: one as a birthday card, the other as a New Baby card. If you like die-cutting, fussy-cutting and overall embellishing, this is an absolute Must Try for you! 🙂 To help you along check out my very affordable Tutorial #26, containing easy-to-follow instructions with 69 very clear pictures, which you can acquire here.

Craft Until the Last Scrap!

I’ve heard some scrapbookers say that they immediately throw out their leftovers once a project is finished, no matter how much paper real estate they would still be able to get out of it. I’m not one of them! 🙂  On the contrary, I challenge myself to have as little leftovers as possible in the end, so I keep creating until there’s only some last feeble imitation of a heap of little scraps left.

This card is one of such projects, created with the last remnants of my Be-You-Tiful papers, of which I only had a few sheets to begin with.

So, Leftover Scraps Are Beautiful Too You Know…

As you may have noticed I really like to use up every last bit of paper I’m using, both the design paper AND the cardstock. So here’s two cards I created with what little I had left from two previous projects. And I’m pretty convinced that if I hadn’t said anything you wouldn’t have noticed these two pieces of postal happiness are actually created from leftovers – for there’s nothing measly about them at all! 🙂

The first card is made from a single strip of cardstock, folded just so, and with a piece of decorative chipboard-turned-magnetized-closure.

The second card is a napkin-fold card with a gloriously embellished belly band. You can make one yourself quite easily – Yes you can! Just watch my free video tutorial and have at it!

So go ye’ all, beeth the Frugallest of Crafters and enjoyeth thee with thy Scraps! 🙂

September Serenity: Three Outdoors Cards (with nature sounds only)

The three cards I’m sharing with you today were made with Bo Bunny‘s Trail Mix collection, filmed in the serenity of my mother’s garden on a sweet Summer’s day 🙂
And those are the actual birds in her garden you’re hearing, even some baby birds crying for their mom and dad to hurry up already bring them something to eat! 🙂

All three cards have their own unique design, so enjoy a moment of pieceful quiet – and while you’re at it, have a nice cup of tea!

Joyful Reminiscing – a Keepsake Album XL

When I published the video for my Treasured Memory Keepsake Album XL, I got several requests for a tutorial. It took me some time to get around to it, but this summer I took advantage of my time off of work, and created another Keepsake Album XL of the exact same design, in order to write a tutorial.

It’s turned into a large tutorial for a large album :-), sporting 181 pages and a whopping 479 clear pictures to guide you through the step by step process! It will probably not be a “quick project” for you, which of course makes it ideal for the rainy Sunday afternoons that will probably soon dominate our upcoming fall weather.

So, without much further ado, I happily present to you my Joyful Reminiscing Keepsake Album XL, created with the beautiful Coral Couture paper collection by DCWV! 🙂

Colorful Summer Birthday Card

Today I’m sharing a short video with you of a card I decorated mainly with leftover scraps. I always find it amazing how much design paper real estate you can still pull from your scraps, and I always enjoy sharing my inspiration with you all to not throw away your scraps too easily 😉

This time I used the leftovers from my Springtime Dreams keepsake album, created with papers by Webster’s Pages, using their collection called Nest. The larger flowers are by Prima Marketing.

Four Seasons Sturdy Folio Album

Hi guys, I’m very happy to present my latest design: a very sturdio folio album, which I’ve therefore dubbed Sturdio 🙂 .

It consists of three accordion-fold page assemblies, rolled into one neat mini album. This one’s theme is the Four Seasons, since I used Graphic 45’s beautiful floral calendar collection Time to Flourish. I kept the months in their proper order, thereby creating three trimesters for one entire year of pictures.

I was completely in the Zone when I designed and created this, which is why I haven’t been able to write a tutorial. I promise I will write one this year, and thank you for your patience, for it will take me creating a second one of these sturdios.

Double Layout Card with G45’s World’s Fair

I love the full-color spectrum of Graphic 45’s World’s Fair paper collection, which allows me to create the kind of colorful projects I enjoy so much.

Of couse I created a large keepsake album first to take full advantage of the gorgeous papers, and fortunately I had enough paper left over to create several cards. Today I’m sharing the first of these – it’s what I like to call a double layout card, by which I mean that it has a layout on both the front and the inside.

To embellish I made use of cutaparts, flowers, chipboard pieces, the tags & envelopes of the collection, and even a small butterfly.

My Entry for #kaisercraftexchange!

Last May Kaisercraft announced their Kaisercraft Exchange project, aimed at sending and receiving Happy (snail) Mail to and from people around the world, without knowing anything about them except their name and address.

I immediately signed up, for it’s always a lot of fun to create specifically with someone else in mind!

I chose the Be-You-Tiful collection and designed a new wallet card, to be sent to a lady called Kirstie, in Pacific Pines in Australia (hi Kirstie, hope you’re reading this! 🙂 ) I also added a small a mini album to keep pictures of her loved ones, to keep in her purse.

For both of these designs together I only needed 2 sheets of 12×12″ cardstock and 5 sheets of 12×12″ double-sided design paper (including two cutapart sheets with some lovely sentiments).

I also wrote a 29-page tutorial for the wallet card, which you can find in my Etsy shop for a small price, to help me keep doing what I do.

 

 

Two Butterfly Cards with Kaisercraft’s Ma Cherie

The soft burgundy’s of Kaisercraft’s Ma Cherie collection have held me captivated for a while; after having created a dimensional layout and a mini layout, I still wasn’t ‘done’ with the fussy-cutting of butterflies and the layering of die-cuts from the collection. I even wanted to use the leftover scraps, for this paper was gorgeous!

So, even though I never owned the complete paper collection, all of the separate papers I did gather were enough to add two more cards before I had reached this paper’s End-of-Stash.

Both sport one or more dimensional fussy-cut butterflies of course. A tip to get their wings to stay up, is to use hot glue instead of normal wet glue or tape. The hot glue causes some tension in the paper which helps the wings to stay up (after you gently folded them up).

Try this yourself and share the results!

Four Summer Cards with Studio Light

I’m a big fan of the Dutch brand Studio Light, which offers, among many things, several lovely 6×6 inch pads which simply consist of different patterns within a certain (combined) color theme. These pads don’t have posh collection names, but are simply numbered 01, 02 and so on. These themeless and therefore relatively neutral pads offer the special opportunity of creating projects with which you could combine almost any embellishment from any collection.

The following four, happily colorful cards I created with Studio Light pad nr. 05, combined with several different embellishments and some cutapart tags and labels from Panduro and Scrapberry’s.

Celebrate Spring with a Garden Journal Card

For this double card I used Bo Bunny’s very lovely Garden Journal paper collection. I embellished with flowers (& leaf) by Scrapberry’s and Prima Marketing, and a gorgeous Garden Journal brad in the center of one of the flowers.

The words “Dikke kus” on the front of the card are Dutch for “Big kiss”, which I die-cut from the design paper with a sentiment die by Crealies.

I matted the insides as well, and created a spot for writing a personal message from one of the solid design papers.
