Autumn Time Ultra Mini Album (with pictures!) + page tutorial

Hi guys & gals!

Well, you’re here, at the final part of September Mini Album Month on my blog! (which simply means I uploaded a mini album video every Sunday this September, instead of the usual once a month). In case you missed the other three, just start here and work your way back up to here 😉

This ultra mini album is a bit smaller than the other ultra minis I’ve created so far. It’s completely of my own design – a design that is actually so simple that I included a short but sufficient tutorial in the video below.

What was new for me was the layout technique: I filled the mini album with pictures, then added all kinds of cuteness like diecuts, brads, dimensional stickers etc. So hardly any interaction, no pockets, no tags – instead, lots of embellishments and decorations, on a foundation of Bo Bunny’s gorgeous Autumn Song collection.

Since this is the final part of Mini Album Month, I also included an overview of all four mini album projects of this month. I really enjoyed showing you a mini album every week, and I really hope you did too! 🙂

 

A Natural History Adventure Ultra Mini Album

Hello, and welcome to part 2 of September Mini Album Month on my blog! (which simply means I’ll upload a mini album video every Sunday, instead of the usual once a month). We started off Mini Album Month with a sweet baby girl mini – if you’ve missed it, you might wanna catch up 😉

This week it’s all about the ultra mini album I created for the son of my colleague & friend, who would be turning ten soon and his mother wanted him to have his very own 10-year-old’s-mini. She told me that of all the things he liked, he loved animals, nature, sea shells, and Minecraft the most. A fun challenge for me, for I had to imagine myself a little boy and try to answer the question: what kind of mini would I like?

I came up with an album that fit the ultra mini album category, by which I mean a type of album that sits right between the regular mini album and the micro album, both in size and complexity. Bo Bunny’s Trail Mix collection perfectly fit the natural history theme I had in mind.

For your convenience I included tutorials for the basic construction of the pages of this mini, so stay tuned for those in the second half of the video.

Last but not least: during the page tutorial I mention the magnet closure and ribbon pull fairly briefly, based on the assumption that you guys already know how to create those. If you don’t, however, I recommend one of my earlier tutorials, where I go over them step by step.

Sweet New Baby Girl mini album

Welcome to September Mini Album Month on my blog:
I’ll upload a mini album video every Sunday, instead of the usual once a month!

We start off with a lovely, very girly, very pink mini album, which was commissioned by a grandmother, impatiently awaiting the arrival of her new granddaughter into this world. 🙂

The album is 15×17 cm (6×6.75 inches) and sports two paper collections: Lullaby by Kaisercraft, and a brandless A4 pad simply called Birth. To add a little contrast to all of this pink, I used a yellow distress ink to ink around all of the edges: Scattered Straw by Tim Holtz.

For the photo mats I used my so-called scrap mats throughout the album, which proves once again how much extra paper real estate you can generate by using all of your scraps.
As a bonus, I added a pair of the sweetest little baby girl socks!

Country Garden Gatefold Keepsake Album Deluxe

So, here’s my latest gatefold Keepsake Album De Luxe, and a pretty large one: about 8,5 x 11 inches, which is almost A4. It was commissioned by a lady who had asked me to incorporate some pictures of her dogs, which gives me the opportunity to show you some “complete layouts”, i.e. at least some of the pages and tags have photographs – plus embellishments.

The paperline is Country Garden by Bo Bunny, a somewhat older design stack but timeless and a very pretty summer line!

New Micro Album design: The Briefcase

This is a cute, unique design, which I’m very proud of! It’s a different kind of micro album, which I designed as sort of a briefcase. Also: very fun to create!

Paper is Bohemian Bazaar by Graphic 45, a great paper that I’ve used before – on one of my mini albums and also on a cute gatefold card. I’ve used the last of the scraps that I had left over of these projects to create this micro album. What a great way to use up all of your paper 🙂

Girly Girl’s Precious – an XL mini album (incl. some Hello Kitty!)

This luxury mini album is 20×27,5 cm (approx. 8×11 inches) and was commissioned by the grandmother of a 7-year old girl who’s fond of – among other “girly stuff” – Hello Kitty and the Belgian/Dutch pop group K3. I offered Grandmother a choice of different paper lines, and DCWV’s Preppy Princess immediately caught her eye. Then she asked if I could incorporate Hello Kitty and K3. Of course! I cried enthusiatically. Only to scratch my head at home, for here was a whole new challenge. I mean, it’s not as if there’s any Hello Kitty scrapbook paper, let alone any K3 lines…

Well, check out the video to see if you think I succeeded. 🙂

Oh, and as for the scrap mats in the album, you can make them yourself pretty easily, just check out my tutorial to see how.

Boxed summer album: Enjoy Each Moment

Inspired by one of the many creative people on Youtube, I took it upon me to create a very special kind of keepsake album: the boxed mini album. The cover of this new category of minis will turn it into a box every time you close the album! Cool.

Not having bought the tutorial, the only design clues I had were the show & tell video by the lady that inspired this album. So naturally there will be several differences between her and my design. Plus, I added some deliberate changes as well: the way the cover opens, the use of book muslin. Well, just watch the video and you’ll see what I mean 😉

Oh, and I did some photo editing as well, for I adapted the first and the last photos’ backgrounds to better fit the design paper – so there’s a little bonus idea. 🙂

Fairytale Treasures keepsake album deluxe

Every 1-2 months or so I work on a “big” project like a minialbum or some other project that takes a lot of effort, like an explosion box or some complex altering project. I wish I could do more of them, but they take a lot of time to create! For instance, a deluxe album like the project I’m showing you below, takes me at least 3-4 weeks to create – I do work a fulltime job and have a household to run as well, you know 😉

Therefore I’m very pleased to present to you my latest keepsake album deluxe: Fairytale Treasures!

It takes after my Butterflies & Stars keepsake album, as well as my Flora & Fauna version. This time I used DCWV’s gorgeous Once Upon a Time II design paper, and inked around all the edges with Tea Dye distress ink by Tim Holtz.

It’s customized to order, for it was commissioned by my friend Nicole, who wanted her beloved terriers “incorporated” in the album 🙂 So, among other things, I did some photo editing to create a custom Once Upon a Time background – which is great to do for any picture you want to “blend in” with your mini album or your scrapbook page layout.

Above: One of Nicole’s terriers, a cute Westie. I hid it in the booklet on the first real mini album page in the album, the one tied closed with the gold-colored strings, also shown on the video thumbnail.

A springtime Ultra Mini Album

I decided to call this mini an ultra mini album – which automatically made it the first in my brand-new category of mini albums. 🙂 The ultra mini album sits right between my category of micro albums and regular, full-blown mini albums: sort of like an ultrabook – you know, the category of superthin laptops sitting right between a netbook and a regular full-blown laptop 🙂

Creating an ultra mini album turns out to be a great way to use up your leftover design papers, especially if you’ve got more than just tiny scraps.

For the binding of this ultra mini I used my Cinch; the design paper is Flora and Fauna by K&Company.

Forever Memories: a keepsake mini

This is a mini album that I created in remembrance of my father, who passed away very recently. I’ve since filled it with pictures of my dad, which makes it a true keepsake. I’ve called it Forever Memories.

I used DCWV’s Immortal Love paper to decorate. Although this paper stack was probably originally designed with a romantic theme in mind, I found it is also perfect to remember a loved one who passed away.

My first Christmas mini album

This past year has been my first “full” year of paper crafting: it all started with the calendar I created for my mother back in November 2012, which seriously infected me with the “paper crafting virus” 🙂 . It has been a year of wonderful creativity and I’m very grateful for the many new techniques (new to me, at least…) I’ve been able to learn. Looking forward to 2014, I’m hoping to plan my craft projects more around the different seasons: not just taking into account the uniquely different feel of winter-spring-summer-autumn, but also bringing some of the holiday seasons into the mix. Not with every single project of course, I mean, sometimes you just want to use a certain design paper because it’s simply too gorgeous not to 🙂 – but generally speaking I feel it should be doable.

So, starting right now, at the end of 2013, I’m very happy to present you all with my very first Christmas mini album!

I used the Tis the Season paper collection by Kaisercraft and inked around all the edges with Vintage Photo distress ink by Tim Holtz. I’ve also incorporated some so-called scrap mats again, a technique I actually came up with (and named) myself. If you want to know how to make them, feel free to check out my tutorial!

Die-cutting the picture and finishing its edges with glitter glue adds interest to your photo mat! I also stamped the year in the lower right corner, in copper-colored ink:

A full-blown micro album

I’m so excited to share my latest project with you all! As you may have noticed in some of my previous posts, I have a “thing” for creating mini booklets. Not just because they’re cute, but also because it’s a nice way to use leftover scraps of paper. Recently I decided to take it to the next level and I came up with a full-blown micro album! 🙂 By which I mean the perfect miniature version of a mini album I had created previously. And I’m so very pleased with the result!

So here’s my Little Miss micro album. As a bonus, I added a “scene” to the video featuring its big sister, my Little Miss mini album. 🙂
