Quickscrap Project: Springtime Tag / Bookmark

Spring is coming, and although it’s still howling and storming with raging winds and rain here in the Netherlands, I already pruned my apple & pear trees and the first daffodils are blooming in my garden 🙂

So, time to take my Celebrate Spring collection by Studiolight and create something happily colorful. I created a relatively large tag, using some papers, diecuts and cut-aparts. The butterfly is a Prima butterfly made from white fabric, which I sprayed and inked myself.

Since this tag was going to function as a bookmark, I made sure to keep everything as flat as possible. The only little bit of dimension I used was near the top edge, since that would be sticking out from a book 🙂

And since it would also go with a birthday gift to my friend, I gave it a birthday theme on both sides!

Soccer-themed Birthday Card

What birthday card to make for that soccer-loving friend or relative? How about a soccer-themed card, decorated with a custom-printed birthday wish, a Johan Cruijff tag and a wooden letter ‘K’ for his first name. With Stickles, of course.

This time the video contains a super short overview. More details in the pictures below 🙂

Fun2craft: Two Box Cards

A superfun type of card is the so-called Box Card. Its design has been around for quite some time I think, and I don’t know who originally came up with it. This kind of card looks like a box but behaves like a card, in that it is made from cardstock and fits perfectly into an envelope!
By the way, it’s in no way comparable to a so-called explosion box, of which you can view some examples here.

Using the richly colored Fly Free paper collection by Kaisercraft, I created two: one as a birthday card, the other as a New Baby card. If you like die-cutting, fussy-cutting and overall embellishing, this is an absolute Must Try for you! 🙂 To help you along check out my very affordable Tutorial #26, containing easy-to-follow instructions with 69 very clear pictures, which you can acquire here.

Have fun watching the video and do let me know what kind of box cards you would like to see, or for which occasions you have created one yourself! 🙂

Time to Flourish – Two August Cards

The Time to Flourish collection by Graphic 45 is really versatile. You could do a calendar of course, a mini album, or special greeting cards to send your friends and family actual month-based well-wishes. Back in May I created a birthday card and a Mother’s Day card, and today I’m happy to share with you two summer birthday cards, this time for the month of August.

One is a double layout card, the other an extra large card which measures an actual 8×8″ (20 x 20 cm)! I used a lot of layering with the design paper, cutaparts, chipboard pieces, die-cut flowers and some embellisments, mostly from the Time to Flourish collection.

Enjoy!

City Lights Card

Here’s an idea for a birthday card for a man. It has style, is on trend, is magnetized, and there’s no girly fuss 😉 . As a bonus, it is fairly easy and quick to make!

Supply list

  • 1 sheet of cardstock, A4 or 30.5 x 30.5 cm (12×12″)
  • 1 double-sided sheet of design paper. I used the Dreamer collection by 7 Dots Studio, the sheet is called City Lights.
  • 1 magnet, 1 washer/thin metal disc (or: 2 magnets)
  • 2 brads
  • Kaisercraft birthday stamp
  • Stampendous birthday stamp
  • wet glue
  • double-sided tape
  • corner rounder or corner chomper
  • distress ink. I used Black Soot by Tim Holtz.
  • paper trimmer
  • scoring tool
  • bone folder

Tutorial

Feel free to let me know if you’d like me to do a (free) tutorial for this type of card! (even years after this post is fine with me, just drop me line or leave a comment – I’m always in for new blog and/or video ideas 🙂 )

Saying Happy Birthday in red, white & black

My mother recently bought this one little paper pad, which she doesn’t use at all but keeps around for when I’m visiting – just in case I get a scrapping itch that needs scratching 🙂
So here’s my first project with that 6×6 inch Colours Unlimited paper pad!
More will surely follow….

This first one is a pocket-style birthday card, with lots of tags and other niceness! Created and filmed at my mother’s, so this is a Mom’s Home Original, so to speak 🙂
Enjoy!

4-fold Tutorial: Gatefold card, magnet closure, ribbon pull and pattern pocket

Hi gals & guys, I have another tutorial for you! This, my latest How to video, shows you how to make a great gatefold card for a guy. As you’re no doubt aware we can hardly send the men in our lives a card with ribbons, roses and other girly knick-knacks now can we? 🙂 Therefore this card does not have any dimensional embellishments – but instead a much more “manly” magnet closure. Another tip for masculine embellishments: screw brads. They’re absolutely cool – there’s an example at the end of the video, in the second gatefold card I’m showing.

Also in this How to video, a ribbon pull, plus what I’ve dubbed a pattern pocket – by which I mean a hidden pocket, created by making use of the pattern in the paper.

You can of course choose your own measurements, it’s the basic principle that counts.

Design paper: A Proper Gentleman by Graphic 45, inked around the edges with Black Soot distress ink by Tim Holtz.

Hope this helps you all! Let me know what you think and if you’ll make your own gatefold card based on this tutorial – please let me know if you have any questions!

A cute little all occasions photo booklet

This little booklet is a cute alternative for a card: you can add little tags to write a personal message, and even add some photos or other nice pictures. So, Happy Birthday, or Happy Any Other Occasion! 🙂 It’s also a great alternative for using your scraps – next to, for instance, making scrap mats or other kinds of scrap decorations.

Of course you can make your own little booklet quite easily, feel free to come and get some inspiration from my tutorial for mini booklets if you’ve never made one yourself.

Anyway, here’s the video – P.S.: don’t forget to hit the like button underneath it! 😉

A lovely gatefold pocket card

This cute little gatefold pocket card went straight into the altered gift box I showed you in my previous blog post. I designed it myself, using Graphic 45’s gorgeously colorful Bohemian Bazaar design paper, on hot blue cardstock. You’ll also see some of my scrap mats again, in fact, this card is the end result of the project I was actually working on in my scrap mat tutorial, so check it out!

Thanks to its multiple pockets, this gatefold card will also serve great as a gift card holder as well.

For a tutorial on how to make this gatefold card, check out this blogpost here.

Thank you for liking and subscribing, and please let me know what you think!

In the video I mention my tutorial on how to print text on small tags or scraps of your design paper, you can find said tutorial here.

Note on video quality: Most of my videos are 720p; the rest is 540p. If you don’t get one of these resolutions while viewing the video on this blog but instead have to make due with some rather unsharp videos, you should be able to adjust video quality by clicking the gear icon in the bottom right corner of the video player, and selecting your preferred quality. If you don’t have the gear icon, then click the Youtube sign, also in the bottom right corner of the video player. This will take you directly to Youtube, where you’ll be able to change the video quality with the gear icon after all. Hope this helps.

Super-sized birthday card

Having done several mini and micro cards & booklets, I figured it was time to go in another direction and create a super-sized card! 🙂 It’s a Happy Birthday card, created with DCWV’s Serenity paper and measuring 17×25 cm (approx. 7×10 inches). It has three pockets, which hold two photo mats plus an “actual” birthday card – from a local store. Of course I used my scrap mat technique as well, on the front pocket.

Enjoy the video!

Have you ever created a super-sized card or other project? Please tell me all about it in the comment section below! 🙂

Double pocket tag card + a little tutorial

Here’s a double pocket tag card of my own design, using DCWV’s beautiful Serenity design paper. I included a little How to – so if you want to try and create this tag card yourself, simply pause the video and freeze the frame with the template I show you. Adjust measurements to your own liking, and go for it! 😉

I created it to use as a birthday card, but you could also use it as a great mini album insert!

Though I love creating all of my projects, I found that creating something of your own design adds just that little extra pizazz! 🙂

How to create a mini wallet birthday card (for a guy)

There’s of course many different ways to create a mini wallet. Here’s one that I designed and created myself, and I’d like to show you how I did it – since it’s so simple it would be a shame not to share! (and it will only take about 5 minutes of your precious time!)

I used Graphic 45’s design paper stack A Proper Gentleman to decorate, since it is perfect for creating a birthday card (or any kind of card) for a guy.
