Fun little micro wallet / mini album page insert

Part of the fun of creating mini albums is to design and create a myriad of nooks & crannies for your album to tuck all kinds of niceness into. You could use those spots for tags, photo mats, folded cards for journalling, etc. etc. To add to your inspiration for these kinds of bonus projects for your mini albums, I’m sharing a fun little micro wallet with you today.

You could of course also use it as an alternative card – just put it into an envelop and send it on its merry way 🙂

For this particular booklet I took my inspiration from one of Kathy Orta’s designs, so if you’d like to create one yourself you can check out her tutorial.

Anyway, here’s my version – with papers by Colors Unlimited.

A Scented Gift Box of Cards

Fairly recently I added a sweet little paper pad to my (ever-growing) stash. It was the Spring Collection by what I think is a new Dutch brand, called Precious Marieke. It has lovely shades of purple and lavender, lots of florals and butterflies, and it really breathes spring or summer.

I decided to create an entire set of cards with this lovely paper line, and since I wanted to gift them to my friend for her birthday, I also needed a box to put them in.

So I upcycled the packaging of some scented candles. I painted it and matted it with the Precious Marieke design paper. And here’s what’s great: the enticing cinnamon scent of the candles was still clinging strongly to their former-packaging-now-gift-box!

So there you have it, a great tip to give someone an actual scented gift box! 🙂

By the way, creating a set of cards is also a great way to use an entire paper pad, without having to bother with leftovers you can’t get yourself to throw away but which are of no real use either 😉

New design: A Micro Pocket Book

As you may have noticed by now if you’ve been following this blog, I really like to design and create what I call micro projects, small but fully functional paper craft products, perfect for your handbag or as a small but very personal gift. And great to use up those gorgeous scraps in your stash you can’t get yourself to throw away… 🙂

This week I’d like to share a new micro design: a Micro Pocket Book! I really like how this has turned out, and by now I’ve already created two! They are 3½ x 2¾” (9 x 7 cm), sport a magnet closure with a ribbon pull, three little pages + some extra room for photos/journalling, and a nice little pocket to tuck away tiny treasures. It was great fun to create them, especially because a simple change in design paper resulted in a second pocket book with an entirely different look and feel from the first.

Papers used were Bo Bunny’s Country Garden for the one and some sheets by Fabscraps for the other.

Layered Card with Once Upon a Springtime

Using some leftover pieces from my few Graphic 45’s Once Upon a Springtime sheets, I created this layered card for my aunt’s birthday.

This gorgeous paper is great to work with! Its base layer is what I call a scrap mat, i.e. a mat created from scraps of paper. If you wish to try this technique for yourself, feel free to check out my (free) video tutorial!

Other techniques I used were fussy-cutting, layering, matting, and stamping. I also used some liquid pearl around the edges of the journaling part on the inside of the card. And last but not least, I’m showing off my new 1½” butterfly punch and my new Yep, I made this stamp. 🙂

Hope you feel inspired to create a gorgeous card with relatively few materials too! 🙂

Create Your Own Miniature Display Frame

Recently I came up with a small display frame, or foto frame if you will, entirely made of chipboard. It’s pretty easy to make and won’t take you several days of crafting. So I decided to create a tutorial for you all, to help you through these dreary winter days of your Christmas holidays 🙂

And it won’t take many supplies either! Just some leftovers will do 😉 :

  • Some leftover chipboard pieces
  • Some leftover cardstock
  • Some leftover pieces of scrapbook paper
  • Embellishments
  • Acrylic paint
  • Glue/Double-sided tape
  • Hot glue
  • a small picture

A supercute, fully functional micro album

Like most scrappers, I’m totally addicted to my paper. I like the colors, the smell of a new pad, the sense of being able to kind of ‘shop around’ in my own paper stash, total fabulosity!

So I find it very hard to throw away any leftovers, especially anything larger than, say, ½ x 2 inches (1,5 x 5 cm). So I try to come up with ways to use my leftover scraps. In my starting days I did a scrap ornament, later I came up with a scrap mat (which I use like all the time!). And yet another great way to use those smaller pieces of your gorgeous paper, is to create a fully functional, pocket-page style micro album! I’ve already shown you four of them in some of my previous posts and I still find them great to work on – plus, they make terrific gifts! You can find them all here.

In this post, I’m sharing my fifth one with you, created with Immortal Love paper by DCWV + 1 sheet of DCWV’s The Colorful Life matstack. Its measurements are 3⅛” x 3½” (8×9 cm) and it’s a very cute tiny little micro album, with fully functional pocket pages. Great for your wallet sized pictures!

In the video I also explain how to suspend a charm or trinket from the spine of your album, so there’s a little bonus How to for your convenience 🙂 .

Desert Flower Micro Album

Welcome to part 3 of September Mini Album Month on my blog! (i.e. I’m uploading a mini album video every Sunday, instead of the usual once a month). We started off with a sweet baby girl mini, followed in the second week by a boy’s ultra mini album which I dubbed Natural History Adventure. Both are fun minis so please check them out if you’re in need of some inspiration!

This week it’s a new micro album I designed and created. I’m defining a micro album as a fully functional miniature mini album. These are soooo cute and, moreover, such an ideal way to use up your leftover pieces of paper, that I don’t think I’ll ever stop creating them 🙂 This one’s even tinier than my Little Miss micro album!

The paper is DCWV’s Serenity, a gorgeous paper line that I’ve used in several of my projects – I’ve in fact started to call it my ‘never-ending paper collection’, because of the endless number of projects I seem to be able to create with it. Curious? Just click here to see for yourself 🙂

Anyway, I love how it has turned out, and of course I’d like to share it with you all!

A springtime Ultra Mini Album

I decided to call this mini an ultra mini album – which automatically made it the first in my brand-new category of mini albums. 🙂 The ultra mini album sits right between my category of micro albums and regular, full-blown mini albums: sort of like an ultrabook – you know, the category of superthin laptops sitting right between a netbook and a regular full-blown laptop 🙂

Creating an ultra mini album turns out to be a great way to use up your leftover design papers, especially if you’ve got more than just tiny scraps.

For the binding of this ultra mini I used my Cinch; the design paper is Flora and Fauna by K&Company.

A cute little all occasions photo booklet

This little booklet is a cute alternative for a card: you can add little tags to write a personal message, and even add some photos or other nice pictures. So, Happy Birthday, or Happy Any Other Occasion! 🙂 It’s also a great alternative for using your scraps – next to, for instance, making scrap mats or other kinds of scrap decorations.

Of course you can make your own little booklet quite easily, feel free to come and get some inspiration from my tutorial for mini booklets if you’ve never made one yourself.

A stack of tri-shutter Christmas cards!

A couple of blogposts ago I published my tutorial for a tri-shutter card. Since I’ve now sent out all my Christmas cards, it’s time to show you this holiday season’s version of a tri-shutter card – plus, how I made good use of the leftover scraps, as usual :-). Hopefully to inspire!

Cute birthday booklet

Although at the moment designing and creating mini albums, cards and altered objects are my main focus when it comes to paper crafting, I really like the occasional mini (or even micro) booklet as well. This one for instance, with its 1 5/8 x 2 1/4 inches (4,3×5,7 cm) is the tiniest I’ve created yet. And it still has pockets & tags! 🙂

I used Madeline design paper by Prima Marketing, the same as with my Madeline cinch mini. This would also make it a great companion piece to this mini, for instance as an alternative birthday card.

How to create a scrap mat – a tutorial

Here’s a little tutorial on how I make so-called ‘scrap mats’. This is what I call the photo mats that I create from leftover scraps of design paper.

You see the thing is, I just like to use up as much of my design paper as I can – I guess it’s a combination of enjoying as much of a particular paper stack as possible on the one hand, and frugality on the other. I mean, you’d be surprised how much photo mat real-estate the right combination of scraps generates! (What can I say, I’m just weird that way 😉 )

Meanwhile, the results have been quite cool, imho. So check it out and find out how to create these mats yourself!
