Low Budget Tip: Picture Card

Hi all,

Today I’m sharing with you another Low Budget Tip, in other words how to create wonderful projects and presents that won’t cause a significant dent into your household budget. 🙂

This week’s tip is to create a picture card. For this type of card you won’t need much design paper for on the front the focus will be a picture you took (any occasion possible!), and on the back you will simply use cardstock or even printer paper of a different color than your base card.

You can keep the embellishments to a minimum by only using some glitter glue to trace around the picture and/or the journalling spot on the back, or you can add some simple decorations as I have, which still won’t have to cost a lot – especially if you’d die-cut the flowers and leaves.

Layout with Kaisercraft’s Limelight, ft. Nita

As of yet scrapbook layouts have not been my core business when it comes to paper crafting, but I do love to do them when inspiration hits me. For some examples of my personal style, may like to check out my layout-in-altered-frame, but also my two calendars: 12 months of Place in Time, and 12 months of Time to Flourish.

The focus of this new layout is my mother’s dog Nita, a beautiful black labrador mix. The picture itself immediately reminded me of Kaisercraft’s Limelight paper collection, which echoed the green and black, plus the white florals. A perfect fit!

8×8 Mini Album: Lucky Dog

The challenge I set myself for this months mini album was to design an 8×8″ album that would perfectly accomodate a Graphic 45 collection. So not just the design paper, but also the many extras that come with such a collection: the journalling cards, flowers, chipboard pieces, stickers, tags and pockets. One of my main goals was to use as little 12×12-sized design paper as possible. And I succeeded (yea!), for I only used 1 sheet of 12×12 design paper, namely for the back cover!

I also wanted to create a wire-bound mini, for I hadn’t done one of those in a while and there are certain advantages to the page design: you don’t have to create pocket pages for there is no hidden hinge binding. And this means: less bulky!

So I got to work with my Raining Cats and Dogs collection – what a glorious color scheme, and what a treat to see a nineteentwenties translation of a pets theme! Also, you can turn your scraps into awesome scrap mats, and in this blog post‘s free video tutorial I show you how to do that.

Since I created this particular album for my mother – with her dog as the main subject of the album – I can show video footage of the album both with and without pictures, so you can get an idea of how pictures could be incorporated in this design.
