Welcome to my new “home”!

Hello and welcome every one!

To all new visitors I extend the warmest of welcomes! I invite you to subscribe to this blog if you like, or leave a comment! You will always get a reply.

To those that have followed me here from my previous (WordPress) blog address, a warm welcome to you too, I’m sooooo happy you found the blog’s new home! Hopefully you’ve already renewed your subscription here, but if not, here’s how and why you can do it:

Become an email subscriber*: you can do so at the top of the sidebar of the home page, where it says Subscribe via email.

The main reason to subscribe would be that you would automatically receive an email notification every time a new blog post is up, which is a very convenient functionality.

Note:

  • If you were already an email subscriber to my blog Creator’s Image at the old web address, then your subscription has already been automatically migrated to this new site. Which means you do not have to renew your subscription – just sit back and relax 😉
  • If you were a follower of my blog Creator’s Image (i.e. those of you who clicked the Follow button instead of filling out an email subscription) at the old web address, then your subscription has also been automatically migrated to this new site, but you won’t receive any email notifications of new blog posts anymore – since that functionality was technically not possible to migrate. Instead, you will only be able to see new posts in the WordPress Readerunless you become an email subscriber, which I think would be far more convenient for you. Therefore I invite you to subscribe again.

So to all previous blog followers but not email subscribersclick here to renew your subscription on the homepage (top of the sidebar).

So, what happened?
Why did the Creator’s Image blog move to a new web address?

Well, since my father died a couple of weeks ago, I’m thinking a lot about life, my job, how I spend my time, in short, about the future. I guess the death of a parent does that to us: it makes us contemplate who we are, what we want and what we’re “here” to do.

So I’m pondering many topics and one of them was this blog: after almost exactly one year of blogging, I suddenly felt the urge to prepare for the next step. I’m not even sure myself what exactly that next step might be, mind you, but nevertheless I felt I could at least expand my web options. This way I could, in the future, for instance add a webshop, or a download page for my tutorials, etc.
To be able to do all that, I was going to have to migrate this blog from a free online blog service (i.e. WordPress) to a self-hosted site.

Which brings me to another change: I wanted the new site to have a .com address; however, creatorsimage was unfortunately already taken. This meant I had to be pragmatic and implement a small name change. I put some thought into it, and am now very happy and proud to present:

Creator’s Image Studio

I’m very excited about this! I feel this keeps the original name intact while at the same time highlighting the creative and artistic aspects of what I do. As a bonus, it also accomodates for the educational component, that is, the workshops I intend to develop in the not-so-far-away future. This way Creator’s Image Studio stands for both an artistic studio and a place of learning.

Migration stuff
The only thing I have not been able to move over to the new Creator’s Image Studio blog, are all of the likes people gave several of my posts in the past. A pity, but to my knowledge there was no technical possibility to do this.

So, feel free to like every post you appreciate, for I will have to start all the way from scratch with my page rankings in Google searches, and liking my posts will help with that  🙂

As soon as everything is settled in (I’m still working on some blog migration stuff behind the scenes), I’ll start posting new blog content again. This should hopefully take no more than a week or so. You’ll know when the dust has settled when the first new post after this one is up!

So, thank you for your patience and your subscriptions, comments and likes. Please stay tuned!

And here’s li’l ol’ me – with both my Christmas mini and micro albums, check them out while waiting for me to finalize moving this blog 😉

A lovely gatefold pocket card

This cute little gatefold pocket card went straight into the altered gift box I showed you in my previous blog post. I designed it myself, using Graphic 45’s gorgeously colorful Bohemian Bazaar design paper, on hot blue cardstock. You’ll also see some of my scrap mats again, in fact, this card is the end result of the project I was actually working on in my scrap mat tutorial, so check it out!

Thanks to its multiple pockets, this gatefold card will also serve great as a gift card holder as well.

For a tutorial on how to make this gatefold card, check out this blogpost here.

Thank you for liking and subscribing, and please let me know what you think!

In the video I mention my tutorial on how to print text on small tags or scraps of your design paper, you can find said tutorial here.

Note on video quality: Most of my videos are 720p; the rest is 540p. If you don’t get one of these resolutions while viewing the video on this blog but instead have to make due with some rather unsharp videos, you should be able to adjust video quality by clicking the gear icon in the bottom right corner of the video player, and selecting your preferred quality. If you don’t have the gear icon, then click the Youtube sign, also in the bottom right corner of the video player. This will take you directly to Youtube, where you’ll be able to change the video quality with the gear icon after all. Hope this helps.

Tri-shutter Xmas card tutorial

It’s that time of the year again – we’re preparing to send out our Season’s Greetings to all of our family and friends. So I did some research on the web and studied different kinds of homemade cards. The type of card that I chose checked all the boxes for me: you can use one template to create lots of unique cards; each card doesn’t take you more than one hour to create; you can decorate approx. 20 cards with one 6×6 inch paper pad to keep things cost effective.

Of course I’m sharing this with you all, so you can get some production going on your own homemade Christmas cards! The video below takes you through my tutorial for a so-called trishutter card. I’m showing you the finished products in a future blog post however, since I don’t want to give away any spoilers to the cards’ recipients ;-). There is a tiny little sneak peak in the video however…

So enjoy the tutorial and Happy Scrapping!

How to create a scrap mat – a tutorial

Here’s a little tutorial on how I make so-called ‘scrap mats’. This is what I call the photo mats that I create from leftover scraps of design paper.

You see the thing is, I just like to use up as much of my design paper as I can – I guess it’s a combination of enjoying as much of a particular paper stack as possible on the one hand, and frugality on the other. I mean, you’d be surprised how much photo mat real-estate the right combination of scraps generates! (What can I say, I’m just weird that way 😉 )

Meanwhile, the results have been quite cool, imho. So check it out and find out how to create these mats yourself!

A full-blown micro album

I’m so excited to share my latest project with you all! As you may have noticed in some of my previous posts, I have a “thing” for creating mini booklets. Not just because they’re cute, but also because it’s a nice way to use leftover scraps of paper. Recently I decided to take it to the next level and I came up with a full-blown micro album! 🙂 By which I mean the perfect miniature version of a mini album I had created previously. And I’m so very pleased with the result!

So here’s my Little Miss micro album. As a bonus, I added a “scene” to the video featuring its big sister, my Little Miss mini album. 🙂

What do you do with the sheets and scraps of design paper you have left over?

Double pocket tag card + a little tutorial

Here’s a double pocket tag card of my own design, using DCWV’s beautiful Serenity design paper. I included a little How to – so if you want to try and create this tag card yourself, simply pause the video and freeze the frame with the template I show you. Adjust measurements to your own liking, and go for it! 😉

I created it to use as a birthday card, but you could also use it as a great mini album insert!

Though I love creating all of my projects, I found that creating something of your own design adds just that little extra pizazz! 🙂

Timeless Moments mini album “Serenity”

Counting by the number of mini album blogposts I’ve published you’d think this mini album is my sixth. However, it was actually my third, but I wasn’t able to publish this post until the recipient had actually received it as her birthday gift – which has only been the case since yesterday, so here we go! 🙂

DCWV’s Serenity paper is particularly gorgeous imho and therefore I was extra pleased to be able to use it for a mini album!

Above: DCWV’s Serenity paper stack consists of 24 stunningly beautiful designs.

My mother commissioned it for her sister in law, my aunt, and I did my best to create something special for her.

I took most of my inspiration for the construction of this album from Kathy Orta’s Timeless Moments albumI set myself the added task of incorporating a number of different so-called bonus projects into the album, by which I mean different kinds of fold-outs, micro booklets or special wallets. All of these can be filled with photos or journaling or other treasured memorabilia. And there was another “acryllic tag” in this album as well, just like the one I used on the cover of the Ancestry mini album – only this time I attached it to the inside of the cover!

So, please enjoy the video and feel very free to let me know what you think!

Cinch mini album in a box + some of my favorite tools

My first ring-bound mini album, using my brand new Cinch binding tool! I designed a custom-made box around it too, which makes it very nice, tidy and compact, and easy to keep in your bookcase.

The paper is gorgeous by the way (what else is new 🙂 ) – it’s Prima’s Madeline design paper, and I used both the A4 stach and the 6×6 inch pad.

I’m very pleased with the result, but of course I learned a lot too while creating this ringed album: what to do and more importantly, what NOT to do… Just check out the video and see what I mean 😉

In the video I’m also showing you some of the tools I use by the way.

For this album I was partly inspired by Kathy Orta’s build-a-page design,
and also by Ginger from My Sisters Scrapper for the page insert at the back of the mini album.

What are your favorite tools for paper crafting? Let me know in the comments section below! 🙂

Birthday card – for a guy

It’s not always easy to come up with original design ideas for a guy. That’s why I thought I’d share mine, to give some inspiration. Like the design in one of my previous posts, I took my Graphic 45’s A Proper Gentleman again – but this time used some different designs from the stack.
Enjoy!

How to create a mini wallet birthday card (for a guy)

There’s of course many different ways to create a mini wallet. Here’s one that I designed and created myself, and I’d like to show you how I did it – since it’s so simple it would be a shame not to share! (and it will only take about 5 minutes of your precious time!)

I used Graphic 45’s design paper stack A Proper Gentleman to decorate, since it is perfect for creating a birthday card (or any kind of card) for a guy.

How to print your tags

I really like using cute little tags for my projects – and I prefer printing text on them, since that looks more professional, is more readable and is quicker than mounting individual letters on a stamping block to stamp words and sentences.

People have asked me how I print text on the tiniest tags, since these tags are generally too small for a printer, therefore I thought I’d share what I’ve come up with.

So, here’s the video, enjoy printing your own tags from now on! 🙂

Two birthday photo wallets (and hosting my first workshop)

Recently I used the design of the Uptown Flair birthday photo wallet to teach my first scrapping workshop! I received three ladies into my home to show them the first steps of scrapbooking techniques. It was super fun having to actually lay the table, only this time using cutting mat, craft knife, bone folder and ruler for plates & cutlery 🙂

The ladies had great fun creating their own photo wallets, and once the creative juices started flowing each of them came up with some pretty great ways to embellish their cards!

Each photo wallet was created using two olive green envelopes & cards, plus an extra piece of lime green card stock. We matted with Basic Grey’s lovely Sweet Threads design paper, using the 6×6 inch pad. Although none of the photo wallets were completely finished, they were done by about 90%, so here’s the results after a little over four hours of scrapping fun:

And here’s some extra shots of my own photo wallet, which I’ll send to my aunt for her birthday in June. I finished it a couple of days after the workshop. I put some flower seeds in its middle pocket, by way of “sending a bunch of flowers” – with a wink 😉

On the inner right page I will put a nice photo portret of my aunt. The two small pink tags (Beautiful and Feminine) will be put on top of it, by way of “positive commentary” on how I think about my aunt.

Now, I can’t leave you guys without a video can I ;-), so here’s the video (English and Dutch versions) of the photo wallet that I used as a model during the workshop, to show the ladies what we were going to create, how it was going to look, how it could be used, etc. Enjoy your paper crafting!
