Timeless Moments mini album “Serenity”

Counting by the number of mini album blogposts I’ve published you’d think this mini album is my sixth. However, it was actually my third, but I wasn’t able to publish this post until the recipient had actually received it as her birthday gift – which has only been the case since yesterday, so here we go! 🙂

DCWV’s Serenity paper is particularly gorgeous imho and therefore I was extra pleased to be able to use it for a mini album!

My mother commissioned it for her sister in law, my aunt, and I did my best to create something special for her.

I took most of my inspiration for the construction of this album from Kathy Orta’s Timeless Moments album. I set myself the added task of incorporating a number of different so-called bonus projects into the album, by which I mean different kinds of fold-outs, micro booklets or special wallets. All of these can be filled with photos or journaling or other treasured memorabilia. And there was another “acryllic tag” in this album as well, just like the one I used on the cover of the Ancestry mini album – only this time I attached it to the inside of the cover!

Pocket page mini album “Little Miss”

Once I discovered Bo Bunny’s lovely design paper Little Miss, I couldn’t wait to do a project with it. Okay, what else is new, right. But guess what, this time I really didn’t wait and have actually already finished a project with it – and after several “for a guy projects” the past month, I went all out and made it a very girly little album! 🙂 For this 6×6 inch mini album I was inspired by Ginger from My Sisters Scrapper; you can check out her original design here.

I gave it my own style and design elements of course, using Vintage Photo distress ink by Tim Holtz to distress the paper.

Above: a unique design element: I came up with my own paper closure technique for this interactive little fold-out piece, which was great fun!

With its warm browns and soft, lush pinks, this paper is very easy to fall in love with. It also seemed to invite me to embellish more than I usually do…. So I went a little more baroque (only a little) and added my first “spine ornament” to the cover. Anyway, see for yourselves and let me know what you think! 🙂

Altered drawer box – for a guy

Although I may not have posted very much lately, I’ve been quite the busy paper crafter 🙂 . It’s just that I have to wait until the intended recipients of these projects have actually received their gifts, before I can show them (and the rest of the world) these blog posts to avoid ruining the surprise! So, the coming weeks I’ll be posting quite a few projects since August is kind of a festive month in our extended family, with several birthdays and a baby that’s eagerly expected 🙂

Now I’m very happy to show you the second of these “August gifts”! (the first being the Ancestry mini album I just posted)

First I painted this cute little wooden drawer box very dark brown, then I added Graphic 45’s A Proper Gentleman design paper to its drawer fronts – after distressing them with Tim Holtz’s Black Soot distress ink.

Before:

My mother commissioned this project for my uncle’s birthday, and getting to create this was great fun for me. After I was done and had printed her personal birthday wishes on a special tag – adding some extra tags just for fun – she really finessed it, turning it into the perfect birthday gift for her brother by filling each drawer with a nice golfing gift (like golf balls, tees etc)! What a great idea! 🙂

Explosion box with “Fiddlesticks” design paper

I really love this western-like jeans, lace & wood design paper by My Mind’s Eye. This 6×6 inch (15×15 cm) paper shows fascinating combinations of colors, fabrics and textures and also comes with two sheets of tags. Check out my paper walkthrough to see what I mean; I loved working with it!

This is my first explosion box. The most difficult challenge was probably “how not to use the entire paper pad in one explosion box” – but I managed 😉

An explosion box is a lot of work but its rewards are as great: it really makes its recipients happy, their eyes widening with wonder and glee when they lift its lid! :-)The one I made here is probably its most simple form; I’m already contemplating more layers, more pockets, more doors, more… everything! So keep an eye out for my next design! 🙂

Een explosiedoosje is veel werk, maar het is ook wel superleuk om aan iemand te geven door de verrassing die het doosje in zich bergt, en die tevoorschijn “springt” als de nieuwsgierige ontvanger het dekseltje optilt 🙂
